A Kinda-Sorta "Plan" for 2022 (I Make No Promises Edition)

Happy new year! I honestly wanted to have this up on New Year’s Day, but I didn’t do it because I was lazy and really wanted some time to just relax because Decemystery 2021 really wore me out. However, I’m only a few days late, so all is well.

Anyways, this isn’t really going to be a “plan” so much as just me talking about stuff I want to do, plus addressing some little things that I hope to also do during the year. So if you’re interested in seeing what that stuff and those things are, click the “read more” button. Otherwise… don’t. Though I will be mentioning when I’ll begin to post content again!

Decemystery 2022

To start things off, I want to just state that I will have another Decemystery this year. However, I want to do something different. Rather than wait until the summer or some other point in the near future, I’ll just periodically do a write-up for it throughout the year so I can hopefully have the entirety of December to myself so I can spend time with friends and family. You see, with Decemystery 2021, I ended up ghosting my friends (save for two—which eventually turned into one) from the end of October to the end of December; the 29th of December in fact. So for two months, most of my friends didn’t hear much from me.

Honestly, I’m deeply disappointed in myself for not trying to keep in contact with them more, but I was so excited to be writing again and wanted nothing more than for Decemystery 2021 to be everything I wanted Decemystery 2020 to be. So, if a friend ends up reading this: I’m sorry for having left you in the dark, and I hopefully won’t do it again this year.

Anyways, my overall plan is to just do the 32 (maybe 33; I’m considering doing a special write-up on Nibiru for the 10th anniversary of the December 21, 2012 fiasco this year) write-ups throughout the year. This won’t hinder the flow of regular content, unless I end up picking a story that requires more time than normal to cover. Other than that, I hope for Decemystery 2022 to be amazing and filled with a lot of great stories.

Regular Write-ups

Just like last year, I have a plethora of mysteries I’d love to cover. However, I would really like to do everything I can so I don’t end up like I did last year. Which, to put bluntly: I ended up falling into an extremely deep depression thanks to bipolar for the first half of the year, then I ended up feeling great around June and July, slumped back into a depression in August, got prescribed Vraylar in September, felt utterly lazy throughout that month and most of October, then got taken off of it and began writing again around October 24th or so.

So with that said, I’d like to try and write so as to not overwork myself, and to not suffer from burnout (which I began to feel a great deal towards the end of Decemystery 2021). As for when I’ll resume writing… I’m guessing around the latter half of this month; probably near the tail end (so around January 20th). I don’t know for sure, but I do want to have at least one write-up this month. I’d also like to have at least one write-up each month, but no promises. I may decide to do other fun things, like…

What Could Have Been

You know, I sometimes wonder if I should change that name since it’s directly taken from TVTropes. Though I don’t really know of a better name besides that. Oh well, whatever, let’s get to the point here.

Last year, I said I had a lot of plans for this and that ended up not coming to fruition. I still have a lot of plans for it and I would really like to do more stuff with this topic. In fact, I’d like to do an entire Megalist on it (which I’ll get to in a few). So if I only do one mystery/conspiracy in any given month, I would still like to do one (or more) of these since I think there are a ton of very fascinating stories about what a movie or video game could have been if some things had gone differently.

Let’s just hope things actually go properly for me this time around.

Lists/Megalists

I’d really like to do some more lists, just for fun. Though I suck at making them.

Megalists on the other hand I think I’m decent at. In fact, last month, I had this idea for a Megalist on unmade movies and video games. However, as time has gone on, I’ve become more hesitant to do it since I fear I’ll get serious burnout from it. Still, if I ever get the drive to do it, I will absolutely work on it.

If I do end up doing it however, I want to state that I really don’t want these Megalists to become an annual thing. To say that they’re exhausting to make is a wild understatement. While I imagine there are some folks out there who think they could easily do it (and I’m sure that there are plenty of people out there who could), for me: they’re a nightmare since picking out a large number of entries and then trying to summarize them without rambling (something I’m really prone to doing) is nightmarish.

Should I do it, I would expect it to be during the summer. I’m likely going to be moving this summer, and I want there to be an influx of content around that time since I don’t know how long I’ll be out of commission during said move. So if I don’t end up doing a ton of regular write-ups, I’d just do this Megalist and call it a day (while I hopefully don’t end up as stressed out as a new parent). Boy, I hope no new parents get offended by that.

Reviews

I said last year that I wanted to do more reviews (to which I did all of two). I still hold that desire and there’s a good chance I’ll do two of them this month: one on Postal 2 and one on Postal III. I’ve been playing an insane amount of the former game (while the latter… I have some choice words for), so I would love to share my thoughts on both with you, dear reader. With any luck, I’ll be able to write a fair number of reviews this year to fill in the gaps between regular write-ups.

Tags

I intend on tagging each story that takes place in the United States with which state the story is originally from (and potentially others should they be relevant). As for Georgia, I will simply tag it as Georgia (State) since I am certain there will come a day when I cover a story from the nation of Georgia.

Should no state be applicable, I will simply not list it. I may also end up adding the tags for the individual provinces for Canada too. Though for now, I’ll simply add the various states for the US, primarily because I know the vast majority of my readership is from there, and because I’d like to do some little series where I do a mystery from each state. I dunno when I’ll do that series, but I’d like to do it this year (though I sincerely doubt I’ll get all 50 states done in a single year).

I also want to redo the idea of write-ups between 100 and 999 words simply being classified as “100s”. I’ll go through each of them and mark them as being “100s”, “200s”, and so on and so forth. I wish to do this since it feels weird not having them marked by the range of hundreds they’re in. I dunno, I blame my OCD.

Other Things

I’ve thought about censoring the vulgarity in my older write-ups, but I don’t know if I’ll do it. Part of me thought it would be a good idea since I try to keep this blog accessible to most ages but given the really horrible true crime stories I’ve covered; I think it would be pointless. Even if I don’t go through with it, I doubt I’ll ever swear in my regular write-ups for as long as I write.

I would really like to rewrite some of my older write-ups too. While some will (reasonably) see it as lazy for me to retread ground I’ve already covered, I really dislike how a lot of the content I did from 2018 and early 2019 (and at other points in time) came out. It’s shallow, adds absolutely nothing to what’s been said by a plethora of other content creators, and above all else: it lacks the style that I’ve adopted nowadays. So if I do go ahead with some rewrites, I’ll aim to add as much new stuff as I can. This I do promise to do, but I don’t promise I will rewrite anything this year. It’ll depend on what my heart wants me to do.

I also really want to start up a new thing where I do follow-ups to old write-ups where I’ve either found something new, or at the very least feel it’s worth mentioning, but not worth rewriting the entire thing and calling it a new write-up or rewrite. For example, the Mount Vernon Jane Doe was identified last year. I’d kept meaning to make note of it with a new blog post, but I never did because I was lazy and more focused on Decemystery 2021. This is in spite of the fact it would’ve taken me about one minute to write something about it. Still, I’d like to do this in case I end up finding out something new.

I have no other plans for short stories, but if I ever end up writing one, I’ll do it.

I have no plans to do a riffing of anything, but I doubt anyone remembers when I used to do those. If someone does, and they have those riffs stored on a document or something, I would love to never see them again.

I have absolutely no intention of opening a Patreon or anything of that sort. While I’ve entertained the idea just to see if anyone would subscribe to it, I deemed it not only a waste of time, but it would feel really silly given that I’m a total nobody on the Internet who operates a blog. The same goes for a tip jar or anything else of that sort. As far as I’m concerned, I’ll probably never ask for money, unless I end up making videos.

Speaking of videos: I have no plans to make videos. I’d like to as I think I could put a fun twist on the traditional “dark YouTuber talking about mysteries” schtick, but I have no equipment, no editing skills, and my voice is anything but well-suited for narration. Still, if I ever felt confident enough, I’d happily do it. I bet I would amass an army of five subscribers in the first thirty years!

I also just realized that I make this sound like people ask me frequently if I’d do any of this, or if I have plans for it. Funny thing is: yes, friends on Discord have asked if I’d make videos, and a few have said I should get paid for the work I do. So, if you think I’m doing it just because I want to sound important… ehh, maybe I am, but I have been asked about it before.

Anyways, the last thing I want to mention is something I mentioned way, way earlier. I said I’d be moving this year and that wasn’t a joke. As far as I know, I am. The exact date of when I am isn’t known as of the time of this writing, but I believe it’ll be over the summer (likely around July or August), and as I said: I’ll make sure there’s an influx of content around that time. I’ll also likely post an update about it not long before the move begins. I’ll also be doing something towards the end of February which may cause a minor content drought, but I doubt it’ll last that long. Still, I’ll try to have a few things out around then to make sure that I don’t end up being a ghost like I was last year.

With all of that now said, I hope for 2022 to be a much brighter, better, happier, healthier, and more productive year than 2021 was. Again, I don’t make any promises that everything I said above will come to be. It’s simply what I hope to happen, though I will do everything in my power to make sure that I, at the absolute least, do more this year than I did last year. Even if that’s nothing more than writing reviews about random things, or simply do write-ups on the most innocuous, silly things. I’d rather be able to say that I wrote about something this year than have little to show for it once more.

Anyways, I shall see you folks at some point in the future; maybe two or so weeks from now. Maybe sooner. I don’t know, but I hope for it to be this month. Until then: take care and remember to stay happy and healthy. Toodaloo!
