Decemystery (2024) 10: The “Butterfly” UFO of Willow, Alaska

Here’s a fun fact for you, dear reader: I’ve never had a schedule for Decemystery that has remained the same from the moment I began work on the inaugural write-up to the capstone. The reason for that is because of that thing called “time constraints,” and maybe the desire to cover some other story because it intrigued me more than another one. ADHD will do that to you.

More often than not, it’s due to time constraints. When you’re consistently on the clock, sacrifices must be made, and that can lead to seeking out a shorter and simpler case to fill a slot. That’s what happened today—and I think it’s easy to see why if you read yesterday’s entry. The Man From the Box left me mentally fatigued, so I needed something that would be easier and would make me feel less stressed.

Boy, I wish I could say that today’s story provided that.

With something like the Man From the Box, the exhaustion came from how much there was to it and how disappointed in myself I was for not knowing what I believed were crucial details. I’m sure this disappointment will remain when these write-ups go up, and I’m still working on the tail-end of Decemystery 2024 (unless I get really lucky and manage to finish it before December 10). Regardless, the exhaustion I felt originated from my own shortcomings as a person; those shortcomings are something I can overcome, though. I hope to do so when 2025 rolls around.

In the case of today’s Decemystery entry, the exhaustion and stress were brought about by something much more comical. Every now and then, there are stories I find that make me feel like I’m trying to decipher ancient texts or I’m piecing together a jigsaw puzzle. In other words, the grammar or punctuation (or both) are terrible.

That’s the case with today’s story.

Some may ask why I’d bother writing about a story that stresses me out. Well, this one’s special. It’s not only a peculiar UFO story; it’s one that I was able to make sense of somewhat easily. It also has a plethora of baffling details that I believe will make for a fun read and will allow me to have far more fun than I did with yesterday’s story. So pack your bags, dear reader, because we’re headed to America’s Last Frontier! This is the story of The “Butterfly” UFO of Willow, Alaska!

Decemystery (2021) 2: One-Eyed Jack

Okay, so, funny story about today’s, well, story. It was an unidentified person; I had originally had it written, completed, and ready to be posted. However, as the day drew closer, I began to dislike it more and more. The writing was rushed, it glossed over so many details, and I felt it was rather crude at times. I made a lot of stupid remarks that really made it feel like I didn’t care about what I was writing.

Though that’s probably because I was desperate to write. I wrote most of it when I was on medication that had made it an absolute nightmare to write and I was accepting literally anything I wrote as worthwhile. So, while we might not be covering the story that was intended, I did find a worthwhile replacement. It’s the story of a man known only as One-Eyed Jack. He too is an unidentified person. So come along, dear reader. We’re off to Alaska.

Decemystery (2019) 12: The Ghost Mammoth

Hug the mammoth.
Initially, I found this mystery to be extremely silly, hence why I picked it. Though the more I think about it as I begin to write this entry, the less silly it becomes. A very popular type of ghost story comes into the form of hellhounds, which are said to be demons that take the form of dogs with pitch black fur. Then there are reports of dogs that are outright ghosts—typically said to be spiritual guardians. There are, however, “Door Dogs”, which are said to be omens of one's imminent demise. On a more absurd note, I  recall hearing a story of two kids that encountered the ghosts of velociraptors.

So in theory, the idea of a Ghost Mammoth isn't too outlandish. Though it's still something I can't help but snicker at. The thought of a giant wooly mammoth ghost stomping around a dimly lit road is rather funny. Ah well, let's see what this mammoth sized tale has to offer us.

Decemystery 29: The Disappearance of Hale Boggs

Boggs' portrait.
Ah, politicians. They’re controversial to be sure. That said, the story of House Majority Leader Hale Boggs is one-of-a-kind. And with that, I want to clarify something before we continue. While I could ramble on about Boggs’ achievements as House Majority leader, I don’t feel it necessary as politics isn’t the main focus of this entry. Rather, once the quick bio is out of the way for Boggs, we’re going to jump directly into his disappearance. If you want to know more about him as a politician, I suggest reading his Wikipedia page or simply Googling about him. That said, let’s dive in.
